What Our Guests Think
We wanted to be conveniently located to Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda and Housesteads. One of our neighbours had walked the Wall and recommended Henshaw Barn B&B. We contacted Pauline and John and were immediately charmed. Their B&B more than met all our expectations and we highly recommend this lovely and beautiful place with such warm and welcoming hosts. Upon arrival, we were given tea and scones, which was a wonderful introduction to John’s impeccable cooking and the excellent food which we enjoyed over the two days of our stay. The dinners were a highlight and the charming Granary bedroom with a private bathroom was so very comfortable and cozy. Especially impressive was the vegetable and fruit garden with the edible flowers that John used for his delicious dishes. We met as strangers but left as friends.
Pauline and John could not have taken more trouble to make us feel welcome: we were given a pot of tea on arrival and their personal attention to our every comfort in the ensuing evening and following morning was delightful. Their home ( a superbly converted barn) is stylish and yet very comfortable and they allow you to feel very much part of their ‘family’ without in any way being too intrusive. The bed was large and extremely comfortable, the food (both evening meal, chosen from an ‘a la carte’ menu before arrival, and breakfast, all cooked by John) was ‘out of this world’ and the countryside around just lovely. A wonderful overnight stay in a delightfully rural location, yet easily accessible from A69.
